I'm a Newbie
Newbies unite! We are about to set off on a journey that can only be undertaken by those who have never before stepped on the path. But before we begin, we need to set some ground rules deep into our writing minds:
WE ARE GOING TO WRITE
But we aren't just going to write anything. We are going to write things that matter to us.
We are going to write about life, death, happiness, tears, and anything and everything.
We are going to ignore the critics as we write down our first draft.
We will press forward in our conviction and not let anyone tell us that we shouldn't write about a particular topic, or tell us that they will not read our books. Someone will. Someone needs it. Someone will like it. It will change someone's life. So find encouragement and follow your dreams.
We are going to skip the nonsense that we have writers block, and we are just going to write. Just five hundred words a day. Nothing more. It might be garbage. But there might be something there. Just type, "I don't know what to write." Over and over until you reach five hundred words. Maybe something will come to you.
We will follow our dreams with the determination of a raccoon in a garbage.
We will use cliches if we need to. But only in our drafts and not in our finished product.
We won't give up when our work is rejected. It's not bad; it's needed elsewhere, we just have to find that place.
Have fun. That's the most important thing.
So writing is hard, right? We have all tried at one point or another to write. But now is the time to buckle down and get that writing out to someone who will read it, and someone who needs it. Good luck and get writing.
